“Holy script re-write, Batman!”

So, it’s been almost a year since the world got to witness the universally agreed upon trainwreck that was Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, and since then, the burgeoning DC Extended Universe has started to take shape…kind of. In very small doses.

What was promised to be a collection of some of the greatest heroes within popular culture done in a way that had never been seen before – unless you look at Marvel, of course – the DCEU was meant to take the characters of DC onto the big screen like never before seen. And this was all to ride upon the shoulders of a successful lead duo, Henry Cavill as Superman, and Ben Affleck as Batman.

Fast forward 11 months and Affleck is definitely not going to be directing his solo Batman film, which the actor had upheld the notion for months whenever asked about it.

As confirmed by DC and Warner Bros, Affleck has been removed from directorial duties indefinitely as the role of Batman “demands focus, passion and the very best performance [Affleck] can give.”

[The following information is, up to now, unsubstantiated, so please do take with a pinch of salt until more news on the story is available]

However, to go one further than this, it may be a case that Affleck won’t even be in Batman at all!

John Campea, the host of Collider Movie Talk, mentioned recently how “’three spirit people’” – whatever that means – “who are all concerned with Warner Bros. have said Affleck’s attempting to quit.”

Apparently, Affleck wants out of the role of Batman. Again, these are, quintessentially, unfabricated rumours thus far however as neither Affleck nor Warner Bros. has confirmed the news. Still, that didn’t stop the internet from coming up with possible replacements that Warner Bros. could turn to if it turns out to be true; current

Still, that didn’t stop the internet from coming up with possible replacements that Warner Bros. could turn to if it turns out to be true;

Current LEGO Batman Will Arnett has been an ‘odds-on’ favourite for the replacement – something I completely support by the way. Arnett is, in opinion, the best Batman to date.

There’s even been a few who have said how East End bad boy, and a personal fave of mine, Danny Dyer would make a good Batman. Again, something I could COMPLETELY GET BEHIND.

Imagine it, a veil of smoke descends upon the villains. From the mists, a dark and shadowy figure swoops in. A black cowl hiding his otherwise rugged visage. And then, he speaks in an East End/Cockney accent; “Alright trea’le, I’m the bloody Batman!” That alone would be worth the price of admission.

Still, time will tell what happens with “Batfleck”.
