So, we previously posted about Mega-City One’s poster and how the Judge Dredd based TV series is in production, and now we have a little bit extra for you all.
We weren’t quite sure who would be up for lead roles, but considering his performance in the 2012 Dredd, many fans on the internet were clamouring over the potential for Karl Urban to bring the character to life once more.
Whilst there’s been no confirmation on the matter from producers, there’s certainly talks happening to that effect.
On the 2000 AD website, a podcast was uploaded on Wednesday the 17th wherein the peeps behind the site got to have a chat with Mega-City One’s producer Brian Jenkins and executive producers Jason Kingsley and Mark Stern about what their plans for the series involved.
During the podcast, Brian Jenkins commented on the potential inclusion of Karl Urban, saying;
“We have had many conversations prior to this, about all sorts of things.
He’s also very busy, a full-time professional actor.
So, we’re going to have some long and complicated conversations I would imagine, and we’ll see where we go.
It’s too early to tell yet, but if we can use him and he’s available to us, then I think that would be absolutely brilliant.
There’s always a possibility he will be busy, or that his schedule for other movies won’t allow – basically, we don’t know at this stage.”
I mean you can’t ask for more than that really, can you?
Whilst it would be nice to see Urban’s inclusion in the series to cement it as a part of one universe, there’s still plenty of time between now and whenever the show eventually materialises – with that in mind, there is no set release date confirmed as you could probably imagine.
And don’t forget, 2017 see’s the 40th anniversary of 2000 AD and of Judge Dredd himself, so it would be really cool if the Mega-City One series saw the light of day before the end of the year to coincide with this fact. I don’t recommend holding your breath for it though.
