On Wednesday 24th May, the news broke that 20th Century Fox has picked its major villain for Deadpool 2 and that just so happens to be Jack Kesy from The Strain, as he is set to take on the role of long-time X-Men villain Black Tom Cassidy.
Whilst, not necessarily a well-known actor, Kesy already has roles in this year’s Baywatch movie alongside Dwayne Johnson and Zack Efron, and with Chris Hemsworth in next year’s Horse Soldiers.
As for his role in Deadpool 2, Kasy is set to play Black Tom Cassidy, was introduced back in 1976 in X-Men #99.
Aside from being a cousin to Banshee and long-term criminal partner to the Juggernaut, the Irish mutant utilises a wooden shillelagh (traditional Irish wooden walking stick/club) to generate thermokinetic blasts.
However, he also underwent a secondary mutation that gave him several more, plant-related powers, including control over them using telekinesis and growth abilities.
Eventually, this secondary ability shortly started to take over his body and he eventually became a tree-like creature, much like Groot, only with a thick Irish accent of course.
Black Tom is strongly linked to Deadpool as it is thanks to DP’s healing factor that Tom tries to heal himself from the plant-like substance growing on his body, so his inclusion in the movie could feature this evolution in the character’s physiology somewhere down the line.
Added to this, we also have the news a couple of months ago that Josh Brolin will play Deadpool’s friend and foil Cable, and Zazie Beetz as Deadpool’s sometime love interest Domino, and the sequel is starting to take shape.
Set to arrive in cinemas around the first week of June next year, Deadpool 2 will see the return of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool/Wade Wilson, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Karan Soni as Dupinder, as well as introduce newcomers Zazie Beetz, Josh Brolin, and Jack Kesy as Domino, Cable, and Black Tom Cassidy respectively.
The movie will also include David Leitch as director following the outing of Tim Miller after he and Reynolds fell out late last year.
