Dave Bautista has done a lot in his relatively short acting career.
He’s been a Bond baddie – as Mr Hinx in 2015’s Spectre.
He stars in Blade Runner 2049 (as Sapper Morton) alongside Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.
And, most famously, he plays Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy films.
Yep, he’s come a long way since powerbombing the likes of John Cena, Triple H, and the Undertaker in a wrestling ring, but he’s still never had top billing in a major movie franchise despite his obvious talent and range.
However, that may be about to change in a big way.
According to Deadline, Bautista is set to appear in and produce an action-comedy franchise all of his own.
In a deal with STX Entertainment, Bautista will star in his own franchise, that will be overseen by Drew Simon (of Below Empty and Matt and Kevin Retire From Being Superheroes fame – don’t worry, I’ve never heard of either of them either).
The franchise will also be co-produced by Jonathan Meisner, who has worked with Bautista on a number of projects, including both Guardians of the Galaxy movies and WWE videos on Bautista whilst “The Animal” was still wrestling full-time.
No other details have been announced about the franchise, and as such we cannot report on a release date, cast, crew, or narrative beyond the above information.
It’ll be interesting (and a little strange) to see what becomes of this story, but Bautista definitely has the credentials to pull off an action movie, and he’s surprisingly funny as well (just take a look at any role he features in in GotG!)
