When There’s an UNOWN Mystery to Solve, MEW You Gonna Call? Detective Pikachu, Of Course!

A little while ago, Legendary Entertainment acquired the rights to make movies based on the Pokémon franchise.

This came shortly after the Pokémon Go craze of 2016, where Nintendo and the Pokémon Company saw an increase of around 25% in its stock value when interest in Pokémon was at it’s highest in a number of years.

Legendary Entertainment announced shortly after its acquisition that its first project would be Detective Pokémon, with news on 13th October that filming will start in January 2018, and in London of all places!

For the uninitiated, Detective Pikachu was originally a 2016 point-and-click adventure game known as Great Detective Pikachu, and follows an intelligent, talking Pikachu who works with a boy named Tim Goodman to solve mysteries.

Pokémon fans wondering where they can pick a copy from will be disheartened to hear that the game is currently only available in Japanese markets.

Detective Pikachu – the movie – does not currently have a release date attached, and it is currently unknown who will star in the film, though Rob Letterman (of Goosebumps fame) is set to direct the film based off of a screenplay by Gravity Falls’ Alex Hirsch and Captain Marvel‘s Nicole Perlman.

Universal Picture will oversee distribution of Detective Pikachu outside of Japan, whilst Toho will handle internal releases.

Should be a fun little frolic with everyone’s favourite electric Pokémon.
