There’s been a lot of ups and downs for the DCEU over the past few years, but despite criticisms, Warner Bros. and DC keep plodding along.

And one of their scheduled movies, that in the past has had stars such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson potentially on-board, has gained a bit more traction.

DC’s Shazam! movie has finally cast its lead role, and it’s none other than super-nerd Zachary Levi!

The former Chuck star will, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, will star as the adult superhero alter-ego Shazam.

And being such a massive nerd, Levi took to Instagram to express his gratitude for the role;

The movie is set to start filming in Toronto between February and May, with a likely 2019 release.

As mentioned previously, there were long-standing rumours that The Rock was in the running to play Shazam’s arch-enemy, Black Adam, though it was recently revealed that the character would instead feature in his own solo film.

That, of course, leaves the question as to who exactly the villain for the Shazam! movie will be, but at least we have the hero sorted out.

It also means that Zachary Levi is the latest actor to have had roles in a Marvel and DC movie, as he previously starred in Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok as Fandral as part of the Warrior’s Three.

Other members in this list include Ben Affleck who starred in Marvel’s 2003 Daredevil and DC’s Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and the upcoming Justice League, and Ryan Reynolds who portrayed Green Lantern in the 2011 DC movie and as Deadpool in 20th Century Fox’s abomination X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the infinitely better Deadpool movie.

A heart congratulations though, to Zachary Levi, because whilst he may have been in the MCU he didn’t have the best roles going on, and at least he’ll have the lead role in DC.
