Netflix is home to many different movies; from big blockbusters to documentaries and everything else between.
However, one of the best indie movies on the service is Kung Fury, which is less of a movie and more 30-minutes of pure joy.
The cult-film, created by David Sandberg, received their funding via Kickstarter, with a whopping $630,019 of the target sum of $200,000. However, the film’s Kickstarter page described how there was a potential for a feature-length film to be made if it raised $1,000,000.
Clearly, though, the film has been hugely successful, enough for a sequel to be ordered with a full, feature-length and some big international actors attached.
According to Variety, Michael Fassbender has signed up to star in Kung Fury 2 alongside Sandberg who will reprise his role as Kung Fury, a Miami detective who possesses a powerful new form of kung-fu after being simultaneously struck by lightning and bitten by a snake.
The original film paid homage to ’80s crime and martial arts films, with over-the-top violence, rogue arcade machines, time-travelling hoverboards, a Lamborghini Countach, a kung-fu practising Adolf Hitler, aka ‘Kung Führer’, and a special cameo appearance by David Hasselhoff himself!
The Hoff is also on board for the sequel, hopefully, to sing the theme song a la ‘True Survivor’ from the first movie.
Kung Fury was selected for the Cannes Directors Fortnight, and the sequel will see Sandberg’s Fury going up against a new and mysterious threat that is helping Kung Führer in his continuing quest for world domination.
Alongside Sandberg, who will help produce Kung Fury 2 under his Laser Unicorn‘s banner, the movie will feature David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith and Aaron Schmidt’s KatzSmith Productions, which also produced 2017’s It.
There’s no news on who Fassbender will play, or whether he’ll portray a hero or villain.
