The cast for Netflix‘s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina continues to grow, as the Archie Horror adaptation has cast roles for Father Blackwood, Aunt Hilda and Aunt Zelda.
As reported by Deadline, Father Blackwood, the High Priest of the Church of the Night and the Dean of the Academy of the Unseen Arts in the comic book, will be portrayed by British actor Richard Coyle. Coyle has had notable roles in the Amazon series The Collection as well as the Hulu series Hard Son.
Blackwood is reported to be ruthless and ambitious, who conceals frightening schemes of his own that will directly clash with Sabrina and the rest of the coven.
The role of Aunt Hilda will be played by Wonder Woman alumn Lucy Davis, according to Deadline. Hilda is described as being “the nicer and funnier of the two [of Sabrina’s aunts], though her darker side can sometimes get the best of her.” The character seems to suit the series perfectly, as it is scheduled to be as dark as the comic book sources but potentially as funny as the 1990s live-action Sabrina the Teenage Witch series.
And finally, Variety reports that Lord of the Rings alumn Miranda Otto will take on the role of Aunt Zelda. Sabrina’s sterner aunt, Zelda is a proud and devout witch who “believes there is no greater honour than serving the Dark Lord as a member of the Church of Night. Zelda acts as the disciplinarian of the Spellman family who is fiercely protective of Sabrina.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will act as a spin-off to The CW series Riverdale and will see Sabrina struggle with being a half-witch, as well as protecting her friends, family and school friends from the evil forces that are all around her
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will debut on Netflix later this year, and star Kiernan Shipka as Sabrina Spellman, Michelle Gomez as Mary Wardwell/Madam Satan, Jaz Sinclair as Rosalind Walker, Chance Perdomo as Ambrose Spellman, Lucy Davis as Hilda Spellman, Miranda Otto as Zelda Spellman, and Richard Coyle as Father Blackwood.
