The promotional campaign for the upcoming Deadpool 2 movie is, without a doubt, one of the best pieces of viral marketing ever.
Between the trailers, the Twitter profiles, and the various IMAX posters (one of which can be seen above), Ryan Reynolds and co. have really dialled it up a notch for the Merc With The Mouth’s second big-screen outing.
And the most recent hit included one of Canada’s finest exports; Céline Dion!
For the benefit of a part of the movie’s soundtrack, Dion recorded an original song, ‘Ashes’, which has also had a music video produced.
And it wouldn’t be Deadpool if Mr Wilson didn’t cameo the heck out of it!
The video was released via Ryan Reynolds’ Twitter account, but, as Deadpool points out, it might be too good for the movie.
Marvel‘s favourite regenerating degenerate tells Céline Dion;
“You’re at like an 11! We need to get you down to a five, five and a half, tops! Just phone it in.”
Not being an artist who can simply “phone it in”, Dion tells Deadpool where to go.
However, this isn’t the only time Céline Dion has appeared in a Deadpool 2 trailer as a recent video features Deadpool addressing the upcoming Eurovision Song Competition.
The video, which is as pro-Canada as possible, features our latex-clad mutate addressing the European Song Committee’s snub at not including Canada in the event.
Deadpool includes a list of musical talents that Canada has produced, including Bryan Adams, Justin Bieber, and Michael Bublé, to name but a few, as well as the aforementioned Céline Dion.
For anyone thinking to themselves, ‘Well, Canada can’t be a part of the EUROPEAN Song Contest as they’re not apart of Europe’, Australia has appeared in the contest in the past few years, something that Deadpool took particular umbrage with.
“Don’t give me that crap about Canada not being part of the European family. You let in Australia and they’re barely on the planet.”
The promotional campaign might have reached peak Deadpool, but, with less than two weeks to go before the movie’s UK release, it’s likely to only increase from here on out.
Directed by David Leitch, and starring Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, Josh Brolin as Cable, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, Karan Soni as Dopinder, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Julian Dennison as Russell, and Jack Kesy as Black Tom Cassidy, Deadpool 2 hits cinemas 16th May in the UK.
