A most excellent sequel has finally been confirmed.
After some 27 years, Deadline reports that Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will reprise their iconic cult roles as Ted “Theodore” Logan and Bill S. Preston, Esq., or, Bill and Ted, as you’d probably know them by.
The long – long – awaited sequel, Bill & Ted Face the Music, will bring the hapless time-travelling heroes back together, for the first time since 1991’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.
Face the Music will be written by franchise creators Chris Matheson (of Imagine That fame) and Ed Solomon (whom fans may recognise from Men in Black), with Galaxy Quest‘s Dean Parisot set to direct.
Back in 2015, Alex Winter said;
“We’re really close [to getting a Bill & Ted 3]. We’re just about there.
In Hollywood parlance, [that] means we’ll either be shooting soon, or it’s never going to happen.”
Well, “soon” may be a little loose in terms of definition, but at least Face the Music is actually happening.
Face the Music will feature Bill and Ted who are now middle-aged and with families of their own. They’ve both created thousands of songs together during the last two decades. but never managed to create that greatest song ever written they so desperately wanted. As all hope seems lost, a time-travelling visitor from the future arrives to warn the pair that only their song can save the universe. And so, Bill and Ted set off on yet another ludicrous adventure, only this time, they’re taking their daughters with them in search of that inspiration to create a masterpiece that will help bring peace back to the universe.
In a joint statement on the news, both Reeves and Winter said;
“We couldn’t be more excited to get the whole band back together again. Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean at the helm we’ve got a dream team!”
