The upcoming, live-action/CGI Sonic the Hedgehog movie is eyeing up a rather interesting actor to play an important role.
As reported by Deadline, Jim Carrey is in talks to play the role of Dr Ivo Robotnik, aka Dr Eggman, the chief antagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
If Carrey joins the project, he’ll star alongside the previously confirmed casting of James Marsden and Tika Sumpter. The roles for Marsden and Sumpter have not yet been confirmed, though early reports indicated that Marsden could be playing the role of ‘Tom’, a “sarcastic cop who teams up with Sonic as the pair attempt to take down Robotnik.”
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie is currently in production from Paramount Pictures with a tentative release date set for November 2019. The movie has had a tumultuous start to life already, as the movie has reportedly been in development since at least 2014 at Sony, with little to no progress being made until 2016. Deadpool director Tim Miller was brought in to helm the project. The movie deal with Sony fell through, and Paramount picked up the film rights earlier this year.
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie is now being directed by Jeff Fowler, who will be making his directorial debut, based off a script by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller. Tim Miller will now serve as executive producer.
